Every 2026 Jeep Compass drives all four wheels. Not every 2026 Honda CR-V does: its LX launched at $30,920 with
front-wheel drive and $32,420 with all-wheel drive (AWD). That makes the fair entry comparison for a Western Pennsylvania
winter all-wheel drive against all-wheel drive, $29,550 for the Compass against $32,420 for the CR-V LX. Both figures are
the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) at launch, excluding destination, as is every price below.

FAQ
From there they pull apart. The Compass brings more torque and a higher tow rating, plus blind-spot monitoring you do not
pay extra for. The CR-V holds a 5-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA),
returns better fuel economy from its 1.5L turbo, and swallows a good deal more cargo. Both seat 5, and both open with a
turbocharged four-cylinder, so family size is not what decides this one. Where the money goes is.
At a Glance
Shop these two against each other and you are buying a 5-seat compact SUV for the same handful of reasons: traction all
year, running costs you can predict, a payment you can live with. Here is where each one lands on the numbers that
settle it.

Read it as a spending decision and it gets simple. The Compass puts its money into drive hardware and pulling power;
the CR-V puts its money into fuel economy and cargo volume. Neither one gives you both for the same price.
All-Wheel Drive
All-wheel drive is standard equipment on every Compass. On the CR-V it is standard on two trims and a paid option on
the other five. That one difference moves the price comparison further than anything else in this matchup.

The CR-V LX answers with the bigger screen and a charging pad the Compass keeps in an equipment group. Winter comfort
is where it goes quiet. On roads that spend January under snow and road salt, heated seats and a heated wheel on the
entry trim are the difference between a base model you drive all winter and a base model you upgrade past.

Each engine wins something the other cannot:
Compass: 10 more horsepower and 42 lb-ft more torque, available from 1,750 rpm and sent through a
conventional 8-speed rather than a continuously variable transmission. That is the kind of pull a loaded trailer on a
hill asks for.
CR-V: 4 mpg better in the city and 3 better combined on the gas engine, with the two level at 31 on
the highway. A hybrid CR-V with all-wheel drive goes further still, at 40 city / 34 highway / 37 combined, and it
carries a price: the least expensive one launched at $37,130, or $7,580 above the Compass.
If most of your miles are short runs around town rather than highway miles, the city column is the one to weigh, and it
is where the CR-V pulls furthest ahead.
Capability and Space
The CR-V is the bigger box. The Compass is the heavier hauler. One of those usually matters more to you than the
other.

Cargo is the CR-V's clearest win: 12.1 cu ft more with the rear seats up and 16.7 cu ft more at maximum, which is where
its extra 11.4 inches of overall length goes. If you carry hockey bags, a dog crate, or a folded stroller plus a week
of groceries, measure before you decide.
Towing runs the other way. The Compass is rated to a maximum 2,000 lb, the CR-V to 1,500 lb with the gas engine and
1,000 lb as a hybrid: a 500-lb margin against one and a 1,000-lb margin against the other. The Trailhawk can be ordered
with the Trailer Tow Group, which brings a Class III hitch receiver and a 4-pin wiring harness. Bring us the loaded
weight of what you plan to pull and we will check it against the exact vehicle you are considering.
Ride height is closer than the badges suggest. With Real-Time AWD fitted, the CR-V sits at 8.2 inches, marginally above
the 8.1 inches of a Compass with Jeep Active Drive. Only the Trailhawk clears it, at 8.6 inches, and that is the trim
where the Compass's hardware changes character:
Jeep Active Drive Low, with a 20:1 crawl ratio and a rear-axle disconnect
A Trail Rated off-road suspension with a 1-inch ride-height increase
All-terrain tires and a full-size spare
Tow hooks and skid plates over the transmission, transfer case, front suspension and fuel tank

The one worth pricing out is blind-spot monitoring. You use it here every week: backing out of an angled spot, changing
lanes on I-80 in road spray. On the Compass it is standard at $29,550. On the CR-V it starts at the EX, which launched
at $34,650 with all-wheel drive, a $5,100 step above the Compass.
Honda Sensing, the name Honda gives its standard driver-aid package, runs the other way. Adaptive cruise control,
Traffic Sign Recognition, Traffic Jam Assist and Hill Descent Control all come standard on all 7 CR-V trims. On the
Compass, adaptive cruise control and Traffic Sign Recognition sit on the options sheet or wait for a higher trim. Hill
Descent Control belongs to the Trailhawk. Adaptive cruise control is standard on the CR-V from its opening price;
blind-spot monitoring is standard on the Compass from its.

Compass: roadside assistance for 5 years or 60,000 miles, where the CR-V's runs only as far as its

CR-V: the Honda Maintenance Program, 1 year or 12,000 miles.

Two things there are worth a second look. Because the Compass never charges for the drive hardware, the entry row and
the blind-spot row describe the same vehicle: the one that launched at $29,550.
The Trailhawk-against-EX row is the interesting one, because at nearly the same money they are opposite vehicles. The
Trailhawk launched at $34,060 and spends it on low-range hardware and skid plates. The EX launched at $34,650 with
all-wheel drive and spends it on blind-spot monitoring and 18-inch wheels. Selling prices move with configuration and
current programs, so check what is actually in stock before you plan a payment around a catalog figure.
The two ladders climb for different reasons, so it pays to see what each step actually buys. The Compass ladder runs
Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk, with two Altitude appearance packages layered on: the Altitude Special Edition on

$34,060, both excluding destination.

Set the two ladders side by side and the shape of the decision is plain: every all-wheel-drive CR-V above launched
higher than the Compass Latitude, and only the LX came in under the Trailhawk. What the extra money buys on the Honda
side is cargo volume, fuel economy and a longer list of standard driver aids as you climb.
Choose Which
Choose the 2026 Jeep Compass if you want all-wheel drive without paying to add it. It suits the buyer
shopping the bottom of the range rather than the middle, and anyone pulling a small trailer. Blind-spot monitoring,
heated seats, a heated steering wheel and the longer roadside term all arrive without moving up a trim. Its top trim
adds low-range gearing and a 20:1 crawl ratio.
Choose the 2026 Honda CR-V if cargo volume is what decides it. It fits the high-mileage driver for
whom 3 mpg combined changes a yearly fuel bill, and the buyer who wants a 5-star overall crash rating on the window
sticker. It is also the only one of the two offered as a hybrid, with adaptive cruise control standard on every grade.
Where Each Vehicle Wins
Each vehicle wins real ground, and neither list cancels the other. These are arguments, not a scoreboard.
Where the Jeep Compass Wins
Most of the Compass's wins land at the bottom of the range, which is where standard equipment counts for the most.
All-wheel drive on every trim, where the CR-V asks $1,500 for it on the LX.
$2,870 less at the entry point on matched drivetrains, $29,550 against $32,420 at launch.
Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path Detection standard at $29,550; the CR-V's equivalent starts on the EX
with AWD, $5,100 higher at launch.
200 hp and 221 lb-ft against 190 hp and 179 lb-ft, sent through an 8-speed automatic rather than a CVT. Maximum
towing of 2,000 lb against 1,500 lb on the CR-V's gas engine and 1,000 lb on the hybrid.
Roadside assistance for 5 years or 60,000 miles, against coverage that ends with the CR-V's 3-year, 36,000-mile
basic term.
A base Latitude that includes heated seats up front and a heated steering wheel, neither of which is offered on the
CR-V LX.
A Trailhawk with low-range gearing, a 20:1 crawl ratio, skid plates and 8.6 inches of ground clearance.
Where the Honda CR-V Wins
The CR-V's wins are the ones you feel over a year of ownership rather than on the first drive.
NHTSA rates it 5 stars overall, against 4 stars for the Compass.
27 / 31 / 29 on its 1.5L turbo with all-wheel drive, against 23 / 31 / 26: 4 mpg better in the city, 3 better
combined, tied at 31 on the highway.
39.3 cu ft behind the second row and 76.5 cu ft maximum, 12.1 and 16.7 cu ft more than the Compass.
Adaptive cruise control, Traffic Sign Recognition, Traffic Jam Assist, Hill Descent Control and a Qi wireless
charging pad standard on every trim.
The Honda Maintenance Program, 1 year or 12,000 miles.
A hybrid choice, rated 40 / 34 / 37 with all-wheel drive, from $37,130 at launch.
Shopping This Class in the Shenango Valley
In the Shenango Valley, ours is the only store selling Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram. The Compass is not a vehicle we
have to look up for you. We stock it, sell it and service it every week, and around here the case for standard
all-wheel drive is not a theory.
The decision comes down to one question: do you want to spend the money on traction and pulling power, or on cargo
room and fuel economy? Winters bring snow, freeze-thaw cycles and enough road salt to make unlimited-mileage
corrosion coverage a real factor in the decision. The roads that get plowed last are the ones most people live on.
If your driving is short trips on those roads, the Compass puts the drive hardware, the heated seats and the
blind-spot monitoring in its opening price. If it is long commutes and a full cargo area every weekend, the CR-V's
fuel economy and its 39.3 cu ft behind the second row are worth the step up. Both answers are defensible.
Only one of them is yours, and the way to find out which is to drive them.

Test Drives
What settles this one is what you feel in the first mile. Take a Compass onto the roads you drive every day, park it

Then put a CR-V through the same drive at a Honda store, same roads, same day if you can manage it. We do not sell

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, on every trim. Jeep Active Drive, a full-time 4x4 system with an active on-demand clutch, is standard
equipment from the base Latitude up, and there is no front-wheel-drive Compass to choose instead.
$1,500 at the entry trim. The LX launched at $30,920 with front-wheel drive and $32,420 with Real-Time AWD, the
same trim with the same 1.5L turbo engine and the same CVT.
The Compass, by $2,870. It launched at $29,550 and the CR-V LX with all-wheel drive at $32,420, both excluding
destination. Selling prices move with configuration and current programs, so confirm the figure on the specific
vehicle you are considering.
The CR-V. On its 1.5L turbo with all-wheel drive it is rated 27 city, 31 highway, 29 combined, against 23, 31 and
26 for the Compass. That is 4 mpg better in the city and 3 better combined, and the two tie at 31 on the highway.
The hybrid, in all-wheel-drive form, is rated 40 / 34 / 37 and launched at $37,130 for the least expensive
version, $7,580 above the Compass.
The CR-V, on both measures: 39.3 cu ft behind the second row against 27.2 for the Compass, and 76.5 cu ft at
maximum against 59.8. The CR-V is also 11.4 inches longer overall, which is where the extra room comes from.
Yes. The Compass is rated to a maximum 2,000 lb, and the CR-V to 1,500 lb with its gas engine and 1,000 lb as a
hybrid. The Trailer Tow Group, available on the Trailhawk, adds a Class III hitch receiver and a 4-pin wiring
harness. Tell us the loaded weight of your trailer and we will check it against the exact configuration.
NHTSA rates the CR-V 5 stars overall and the Compass 4 stars overall. The higher rating on that measure belongs
to the CR-V. Ratings change as new tests are published, so check NHTSA.gov for the latest before you decide.
Yes. Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path Detection is standard on every Compass, starting at $29,550 at
launch. On the CR-V, Blind Spot Information with Cross Traffic Monitor is standard from the EX up and is not
offered on the LX, so the equivalent equipment begins at the $34,650 EX with all-wheel drive.
Jeep Active Drive Low with a 20:1 crawl ratio and a rear-axle disconnect, a Trail Rated off-road suspension that
lifts ride height 1 inch to 8.6 inches, all-terrain tires, a full-size spare, tow hooks and skid plates over the
transmission, transfer case, front suspension and fuel tank. It also carries the 10.1-inch Uconnect 5
touchscreen, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, ParkSense Rear Park Assist and Hill Descent Control as
standard equipment. It launched at $34,060, excluding destination.
Basic coverage is 3 years or 36,000 miles on both, powertrain is 5 years or 60,000 miles on both, and both carry
5 years of corrosion coverage with no mileage cap, which matters on salted roads. Roadside assistance is where
they part: the Compass keeps it for 5 years or 60,000 miles, while the CR-V's runs through its 3-year,
36,000-mile basic term.
The Compass hands you more of the winter equipment without a step up the range. Jeep Active Drive is standard on
every trim, Selec-Terrain Traction Management adds Auto, Snow and Sand/Mud modes on the Latitude, and that trim
also warms the front seats and the steering wheel, neither of which the CR-V LX offers. The CR-V's answer is
Real-Time AWD, a $1,500 option at the LX, plus a 3-Mode drive selector with a Snow setting. Hill Descent Control
is standard across its range.
No. We do not sell new Hondas, so we will not have a new CR-V on our lot. To drive one, visit a Honda store, then
