2026 Ram 1500 vs 2026 Ford F-150: A Western Pennsylvania Truck Comparison

2026 Ram 1500 and 2026 Ford F-150 shown side by side

The Ram 1500 gives you the longest powertrain coverage, the biggest screen and available four-corner air suspension. The F-150 gives you the highest tow rating, the widest engine choice and a full hybrid. If one of those decides your purchase, you already know which truck to buy. Here is the data on both, one dimension at a time.

Full-size half-tons are the most cross-shopped segment on the road, and a Ram shopper almost always has an F-150 open in another tab. We sell the Ram 1500, and the Ford figures below sit where they fall.

2026 Ram 1500 engine lineup compared with the Ford F-150 powertrain

Engines and Powertrain

Powertrain Ram 1500 Ford F-150
Six-cylinder 3.6L V-6 eTorque, 305 hp / 271 lb-ft; 3.0L Turbo I-6, 420 hp / 469 lb-ft; 3.0L Turbo I-6 High Output, 540 hp / 521 lb-ft 2.7L EcoBoost, 325 hp / 400 lb-ft; 3.5L EcoBoost, 400 hp / 500 lb-ft; 3.5L EcoBoost High-Output, 450 hp / 510 lb-ft

Hybrid None 3.5L PowerBoost full hybrid, 430 hp / 570 lb-ft
Transmission 8-speed automatic 10-speed automatic (10-speed Modular Hybrid on PowerBoost)
Best EPA combined 21 MPG (3.6L, 4x4); 22 MPG (3.6L, RWD); 18 MPG (5.7L, 4x4) 23 MPG (3.5L HEV, 4x4); 19 MPG (5.0L, 4x4)

The two lineups are built on different bets. Ram spreads four engines across an 8-speed automatic. Ford spreads six across a 10-speed and adds a full hybrid at the top of the efficiency column. The 5.7L HEMI V-8 eTorque is still here for 2026, from Tradesman through Limited, and the High Output straight-six makes 540 hp.

Check fuel grade before you pick by horsepower alone. That 540-hp straight-six requires premium; the 3.6L runs on 87. The drivetrain wording is worth a look as well: Ram's figures publish as rear-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive, Ford's as part-time 4-wheel drive.

2026 Ram 1500 bed and cabin space compared with the Ford F-150

Capability and Space

Capability and space Ram 1500 Ford F-150
Cargo box volume 53.8 cu ft (5'7" box); 61.3 cu ft (6'4" box) 52.8 cu ft (5.5-ft); 62.3 cu ft (6.5-ft); 77.4 cu ft (8-ft)

Ground clearance 8.3 to 8.7 in without skid plate 8.2 to 9.8 in
Front head room 40.9 in 40.8 in
Front leg room 40.9 in 43.9 in
Rear suspension Available active-level four-corner air, about 8.7 in rising to about 10.7 in in Off Road 2 mode Leaf spring with solid axle (5-link coil with Panhard rod on Raptor)
Transfer case Borg-Warner 48-12 part-time; 48-11 on-demand; 48-13 full-time on the High Output Electronic shift-on-the-fly (XL/STX/XLT); Torque On Demand 2-speed automatic (Lariat/King Ranch/Platinum)
Seating 6-passenger 3/3, Quad Cab and Crew Cab 3 (Regular Cab), 5 to 6 (SuperCab and SuperCrew)

Ford takes front leg room here, at 43.9 inches. Three Ram figures stand alone, with no Ford counterpart in this comparison: 44.8 inches of Crew Cab rear leg room, 66.4 inches of cargo width, and a 26-gallon tank with a 33-gallon option. The cargo box row calls for care. Ram's boxes are 5'7" and 6'4"; Ford's are 5.5-ft, 6.5-ft and 8-ft. Those labels are not interchangeable, so read each in its own maker's wording rather than lining them up.

On towing, Ram rates by configuration rather than as one headline number. A 1500 Tradesman 4x2 Quad Cab with the 3.0L straight-six and the 3.92 axle is rated at 11,610 lb of trailer and 1,930 lb of payload on a 17,000-lb GCWR. The same engine and axle in a 4x4 Crew Cab Tradesman is rated at 11,200 lb of trailer and 1,840 lb of payload on the same 17,000-lb GCWR. That is why we ask what you are actually pulling instead of quoting you a brochure maximum. Ram's 4x4 hardware runs Borg-Warner transfer cases, a 2.64 low range, and axle ratios of 3.21, 3.55 or 3.92, which earns its keep in a Shenango Valley January.

2026 Ram 1500 Uconnect touchscreen compared with the Ford F-150 SYNC 4 display

Technology

Technology Ram 1500 Ford F-150
Infotainment Uconnect, 8.4-in / 12-in / 14.5-in touchscreens SYNC 4, 12-in center screen plus 12-in digital cluster
Premium audio Up to 23 speakers (Tungsten) Bang & Olufsen available
Wireless charging Available Yes

The screen is the cleanest tech difference here. Ram's largest Uconnect touchscreen measures 14.5 inches against the F-150's 12-inch SYNC 4 center screen. Trim decides which one you get: the Ram range starts at 8.4 inches on Tradesman and Express. Ford answers with a second 12-inch panel, a digital instrument cluster in front of the driver.

On audio, Ram runs from six speakers up to 23 in the Tungsten; Ford's available premium system is Bang & Olufsen.

On connectivity, the F-150 offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, available navigation, and FordPass connected services. Ask us and we will confirm smartphone integration on the actual truck you are considering.

2026 Ram 1500 driver-assist features compared with the Ford F-150

Safety

Safety Ram 1500 Ford F-150
NHTSA overall crash-test rating, as of this writing 5 stars 5 stars
Driver-assist suite Active Lane Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind-spot Monitoring with trailer coverage, Rear Cross Path, ParkSense, ParkView, all standard Ford Co-Pilot360 driver-assist suite, standard
Hands-free driving Hands-free Active Driving Assist, available BlueCruise, available as a one-time purchase

As of this writing both trucks hold a 5-star NHTSA overall rating, which puts them at the top of that scale and makes this dimension a tie rather than a tiebreaker. Ratings can change, so check NHTSA.gov and IIHS.org for current scores.

Driver assistance is where our two data sets are not symmetrical. Standard across the Ram 1500 line: Active Lane Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind-spot Monitoring with trailer coverage and Rear Cross Path, ParkSense front and rear park assist, and ParkView backup camera. Available in the Advanced Safety and Advanced Technology groups: Surround 360 camera, Evasive Steer Assist, Intersection Collision Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Drowsy Driver Detection, Head-Up Display, and Hands-free Active Driving Assist.

On the Ford side, the F-150 carries Ford's Co-Pilot360 driver-assist suite, with BlueCruise hands-free highway driving available as a one-time purchase on XLT 302A/303A, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Tremor. Two specifics are worth calling out on their own merits. Ram's Blind-spot Monitoring includes trailer coverage, which matters the moment there is something behind you. Ford's BlueCruise is hands-free highway driving you buy once.

2026 Ram 1500 warranty coverage compared with the Ford F-150

Warranty

Coverage Ram 1500 Ford F-150
Basic / bumper-to-bumper 36 months / 36,000 miles 3 years / 36,000 miles
Powertrain 120 months / 100,000 miles (10-year/100,000-mile) 5 years / 60,000 miles
Corrosion (perforation) 60 months / unlimited miles 5 years / unlimited miles

The middle row is the one that matters. Ram's powertrain coverage runs double the years and 40,000 more miles. Basic terms are effectively the same and corrosion matches, so that line is the whole difference.

What it means in practice: the F-150's powertrain coverage ends at year five or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. The Ram 1500's runs to year ten or 100,000 miles. That gap covers years four through ten on a truck you already own. Those are usually the years after the payments stop, and the years when an engine, transmission or driveline repair falls to you.

Trade every three years and this row is worth nothing to you. Keep trucks the way they get kept around here, plowed with, salted and handed down, and it may matter more than anything else on this page.

2026 Ram 1500 pricing compared with the Ford F-150

Price

Price Ram 1500 Ford F-150
Starting MSRP $42,025 $39,330 (XL)
Trims Tradesman, Express, Big Horn (sold as Lone Star in Texas), Warlock, Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, Tungsten, RHO XL, STX, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Tremor, Raptor, Raptor R

Both figures are MSRP at launch; Ford's excludes destination.

Ford's ladder at launch, excluding destination: XL $39,330, STX $41,855, XLT $44,695, Lariat $59,560, Tremor $64,915 (4WD), King Ranch $65,825, Platinum $68,800, and Raptor $79,005 (4WD). Ram prices move with cab, box, axle and options, so the number that matters is the one on the truck you actually spec.

Sticker is still the least useful figure in this whole comparison: incentives, trim, axle, box and your trade move the real number far more than any launch figure does. Run yours with the Payment Calculator, or ask us and we will price the actual truck.

Choosing between the 2026 Ram 1500 and the Ford F-150

Which One Fits You

Each truck genuinely wins something here, and the two boxes below lay out what.

2026 Ram 1500 with available four-corner air suspension

Where the Ram 1500 Wins

  • Ram backs the powertrain for 120 months or 100,000 miles against Ford's 5-year/60,000-mile term: double the years and 40,000 more miles.
  • Its largest Uconnect touchscreen measures 14.5 inches against the F-150's 12-inch SYNC 4 screen, and its sound system reaches 23 speakers in the Tungsten.
  • Active-level four-corner air suspension is available on the Crew Cab, rising from about 8.7 to about 10.7 inches in Off Road 2 mode, where the F-150's rear is a leaf spring with a solid axle. Blind-spot Monitoring with trailer coverage is standard across the line, not an option box. Ram also has 44.8 inches of Crew Cab rear leg room and 66.4 inches of cargo width. And the High Output straight-six makes 540 hp and 521 lb-ft, on an 8-speed, with a 2.64 low range and a 3.92 axle available underneath it.
2026 Ford F-150 towing a heavy trailer

Where the Ford F-150 Wins

  • Ford tows and hauls more at the top end: up to 13,500 lb with the 3.5L EcoBoost in 4x4, and up to 2,175 lb of payload, above any Ram 1500 configuration we compared.
  • It offers six engines to the Ram 1500's four, including a full-hybrid PowerBoost V6 the Ram lineup has no counterpart to, and on a matched 4x4 basis that hybrid carries the higher combined EPA figure, 23 MPG against the Ram 1500's best 4x4 figure of 21 MPG.
  • There is more front leg room, 43.9 inches against 40.9, and three box lengths, up to an 8-ft box.
  • Inside, a 12-inch center screen pairs with a 12-inch digital cluster, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, available navigation and FordPass, with BlueCruise hands-free highway driving offered as a one-time purchase. If any one of those is the thing that decides your purchase, buy the Ford.

Choose the Ram 1500 if you keep trucks long enough that coverage outlives the loan, you spend real hours in the cabin, you tow a boat or a landscape trailer rather than a maxed-out gooseneck, and you like the idea of 540 hp from a six-cylinder.

Choose the Ford F-150 if your trailer or payload sheet needs the F-150's top ratings, you want a full hybrid, you need an 8-foot box, or BlueCruise is the feature you cannot do without.

Buying a Ram 1500 at Mike Kelly CDJR in Hermitage, Western Pennsylvania

Buying a Truck in the Shenango Valley

We are the only Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram store in Hermitage and effectively in Mercer County, and the Ram 1500 is the deepest part of our lot. This is truck and 4x4 country: cold snowy winters, salted roads off I-80 and I-79, tradespeople running work trucks between Sharon, Farrell and Sharpsville, owners who expect a decade out of a pickup. That is why the warranty argument lands harder here than somewhere flat and dry, and why we ask about your trailer before we ask about your budget. A work truck that never pulls more than 8,000 lb does not need the configuration that pulls 11,610, and a 2.64 low range matters more on an unplowed February morning than any spec on this page. Every truck we sell is backed by Kelly Confidence; if a late-model used truck fits better than a new one, start with our Certified Pre-Owned inventory.

Drive Them Both

Specs settle arguments; seat time settles purchases. Schedule a Test Drive of a Ram 1500 with us, browse the Ram 1500 inventory or shop all new Ram, and bring your trade for a trade appraisal. Sit behind the 14.5-inch screen, put the seat where you drive it, and pull whatever you actually pull. We will not have a new F-150 on our lot, so drive one at a Ford store the same week and compare them back to back while both are fresh. Directions are on the Hours and Directions page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ford's maximum is higher, up to 13,500 lb with the 3.5L EcoBoost in 4x4. Ram rates by configuration rather than one model maximum: a Tradesman 4x2 Quad Cab with the 3.0L straight-six and the 3.92 axle is rated at 11,610 lb. Bring your trailer's exact weight and we will match it to a configuration.

On powertrain, yes: a 10-year/100,000-mile term against Ford's 5-year/60,000-mile term. Basic coverage is nearly identical on the two trucks, so this is a powertrain difference, not a whole-vehicle one.

Ford does: the 3.5L PowerBoost full hybrid, 430 hp and 570 lb-ft. The Ram 1500 lineup does not. Ram's eTorque, on the 3.6L and 5.7L engines, is a mild-hybrid assist rather than a full hybrid.

Both carry a 5-star NHTSA overall crash-test rating as of this writing. Ratings can change, so check NHTSA.gov and IIHS.org for current scores.

Ram has the larger touchscreen, 14.5 inches against the F-150's 12 inches, and a sound system reaching 23 speakers in the Tungsten. Ford pairs its 12-inch center screen with a 12-inch digital cluster and offers Bang & Olufsen audio.

It depends on the engine. Ram calls for 87 octane on the 3.6L, 89 recommended with 87 acceptable for the 5.7L HEMI, premium 91 recommended for the 3.0L straight-six, and premium 91 required for the 540-hp High Output. Worth pricing out at the pump before you settle on an engine.

We stock the Ram 1500 deeply, but we will not have a new F-150 on our lot, since we do not sell new Fords. Plan on driving one at a Ford store and comparing the two back to back the same week.

For most buyers here, yes. Ram's system offers a 2.64 low range with 3.21, 3.55 or 3.92 axle ratios by configuration, and the EPA cost is modest: 21 combined for the 3.6L in 4x4 against 22 in rear-wheel drive.

Pricing and availability change, so confirm current pricing, ratings and stock before you decide.
